What are network-based application programmable interfaces (APIs) and has the telecoms industry agreed a framework or common set of APIs that can be used by any developer or enterprise partner? Given that developers are already complaining about ‘API sprawl’, will a new set of interfaces be welcomed and adopted? API gateways may be the answer, but we are also seeing the need for a new middleware layer to simplify the deployment of applications at scale. How can these developments help improve the return on investment (ROI) on 5G and help realise the enterprise opportunity?
