Great Telco Debate: Live Panel and Motion
PART 1 – Sustainability as a business reality: not just a CSR tick-box exercise
The Motion: The sustainability journey will have a major impact on the telecoms industry
(The motion was DEFEATED at the event)
Sustainability is a complex set of topics which have tended to sit in the CSR department and not surface in mainstream market matters and strategy. Green energy is a great start point given the need for denser networks and compute, storage and connect at the edge of the network. Green investment is also gaining traction. How are telcos filtering the green agenda into their supply chain? Finally, what about the long-term sustainability of the industry itself as it faces competition from outside telecoms, margin pressure on services and a relatively lower-order role in the digital hierarchy?
PART 2 – Keeping the customer satisfied: Is it time for telcos to finally get real?
The Motion: Telcos are in the optimum position to manage customer happiness in an increasingly digital world
(The motion was CARRIED at the event)
New technological developments such as 5G and ubiquitous fibre come with a promise of ‘better’ customer service and experience. However, with connectivity just one element making up the digital services that individuals and businesses consume, what will the role of the telcos be in shaping this experience. Can they step up and deliver high quality across all potential channels themselves or is it time for more of a channel play, accepting their relative role in the marketplace?
