Has all the hype blunted the edge; should telcos leave the edge to the public cloud providers? Or is there still plenty of opportunity for telcos to deliver their own profitable services?
Rarely has a battleground had so many factions: connectivity, storage, compute, analytics, applications and content players. Where does the edge actually manifest itself: on devices, on the customer premise, in the telco network, in the clouds, or in the vendors’ own platforms? This is the biggest call to arms we have ever seen with so many industries bringing their different flavours of working to the edge of the table. Are all parts equal or do some stakeholders hold a stronger hand? And, who benefits from the multiple edges? Has all of the hype blunted the edge or is there plenty of room for CSPs et al to generate long-term sustainable revenue by bringing all parties together?
