Looks great on paper, but are CSPs really set up to manage an open vendor ecosystem?
It sounds great in theory, benefiting from the disaggregation of elements leveraging more open platforms and hence a wider spectrum of suppliers. Is this the only way to bring the telecoms industry to the cost base that improves margins? As we shift to a more software-centric industry does it make sense to shift the supplier roster towards more ‘open’ players? Adding to the number of suppliers just asks for more integration requirements and potentially flies in the face of simplification of the underlying infrastructure and services proffered to the market. Either way, are the CSPs set up to handle the right blend of suppliers to build out the infrastructure and services for the future?
