Altice Labs continues to focus on collaboration with universities

Continuing its research and development (R&D) strategy in partnership with, among others, the scientific system, Altice Labs is currently involved in four projects that will allow it to leverage its knowledge and innovation capacity in areas important to our activity .

In partnership with Instituto de Telecomunicações, two projects are being developed, in quite different areas:

" Wifi2020 - Smart Wifi Network ", coordinated by Paulo Jesus, from the Development and Implementation of Network Systems direction, aims to develop a WiFi demonstrator that integrates a new radiant system of antennas printed on the PCB itself with high performance. It is intended, therefore, to guarantee a high standard of coverage, having as reference the performance of the current antenna solution provided by third parties. Additionally, it is intended to explore cognitive radios, based on IEEE802.11ac/ad/ax and WiFi 10G integration (60GHz, IEEE 802.11ad).

" CityIoT - City IoT in the Cloud ", coordinated by Filipe Cabral Pinto, from Technological Coordination and Innovation direction, intends, in turn, to create a framework of IoT applications for cities (Smart Cities) on cloud environments. This platform should be capable of integrating all types of sensors and actuators in a transparent way, based on Altice Labs SmartIoT platform.

In partnership with the University of Minho, the project " MLT-NM - Machine Learning Techniques Applied to Cognitive 5G Network Management " is underway. This project, coordinated by Pedro Miguel Neves from the Technological Coordination and Innovation direction, aims to build a prototype of a platform that allows to infer, diagnose and solve potential anomalies in a 5G environment with support for virtualization (NFV) and programmability (SDN), through the use of machine-learning techniques and algorithms.

Finally, together with the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), the project " ARaNI - Augmented Reality and Natural Interaction for Smart Living " is being developed under the coordination of Fausto de Carvalho, from the Technological Coordination and Innovation direction. Exploring augmented reality themes and natural interfaces by extending the concept of Smart Mirror and researching the augmented reality context in the home environment is the main goal of this project based on the AlticeLabs@UTAD protocol.

With a duration of approximately 9 months, these projects in partnership are promoted by Altice Labs and have, over the last years, shown to be a good vehicle for, on the one hand, to explore new concepts and approaches and, on the other, to obtain new knowledge, capable of boosting and increasing the Innovation capacity.
