Original Equipment Manufacturer to Provide Outage Services to Browns Ferry Reactors

WILMINGTON, NC—December 3, 2015 —TVA has awarded a contract to GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) to provide outage services for Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant units 1, 2 and 3.

The contract, valued at more than $70 million, calls for GEH to provide a full portfolio of outage and inspection services including refuel floor, under-vessel activities and control rod drive mechanism exchange services for the reactors near Decatur, Alabama.

“We look forward to providing engineering and technical services expertise, advanced tooling and skilled, experienced outage personnel to help TVA meet its goals for the safe and reliable operation of the Browns Ferry reactors,” said Lance Hall, Executive Vice President, Nuclear Fuels and Services, GEH.

The agreement runs through 2020 and includes a total of nine outages (three at each reactor).

At full capacity, Browns Ferry’s three GE boiling water reactors generate a combined 3,300 megawatts which is 10 percent of TVA’s total generation capacity and enough clean-air electricity to meet the needs of more than 2 million homes.
