Two Pint Problem

The Seventh Two Pint Problem: The Conundrum of the Controllable Core

Jun 17, 2014

Over the past 20 years or more, big telcos have let go of the network technology they used to incubate in their own labs in the interests of focusing on the customer. Today SDN and NFV are expected to have all sorts of advantages but one of the greatest might be it that enables telcos to own and control the core technology again. In this seventh Two Pint problem-solving session, Martin Taylor, CTO of Metaswitch Networks, along with TelecomTV's Martyn Warwick and Ian Scales, ruminate on this and how far it might go. Being able to innovate in-house on SDN and NFV might just give telcos the agility they’re looking for. Then we ponder WebRTC (real-time communications). Martin thinks it simply promises video and voice communications without the need to install an app, but that "people just aren't that resistant to installing apps," he says.
