The cloud will suck in many things but it won't ingest the settop box

Oct 18, 2013

"We can see a long runway for the settop," says Andy Hooper, VP Sales Engineering EMEA at video and cable TV infrastructure specialist Arris. He says video used to be the poor network relation at large telcos but now a compelling entertainment offering is seen as crucial and that's makes Arris an exciting place to be (Arris = "a sharp edge formed by the intersection of two surfaces.")

The TV/network video market is certainly seeing a lot of change. Service providers are looking to leverage their position to 'bring in' Internet-based players like Netflix rather than fight them. Likewise, says Hooper, second screen activity is increasingly seen as a benefit, strengthening the subscription proposition (rather than diluting it).
