NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President and CEO, Takayuki Inagawa) has invested in LIGHT FIELD LAB, Inc. (LFL), headquartered in San Jose, CA and led by President and CEO, Jon Karafin.
LFL is developing display technology that enables a holographic objects to float in space without head-mounted accessories.
Traditional stereoscopic vision technologies that are currently are used for 3D displays require special 3D glasses to enjoy 3D content. Today, existing glassless 3D displays require a fixed or limited position and viewpoint to see 3D content appropriately.
LFL’s projection technology is a new advancement in 3D holographic displays, enabling the control of billions of rendered photons of light which intersect in air to form real looking objects with full color and motion. LFL has been developing original light field technology to illustrate realistic 3D holographs.
The investment in LFL enables both NTT Group that develops VR/AR technologies with combination of 5G solutions, and LFL to accelerate the development of industry-changing solutions.
NTT DOCOMO Ventures will continue to promote collaborations with startups and the development of new services based on NTT Group’s advanced technologies, as a part of the Group’s ongoing endeavor to resolve social issues and create new value for customers through innovation.
