As Steve Dyett explains, the UK's incumbent telco, BT, has considerable and wide-ranging experience with WiFi technologies and this is if tremendous advantage in implementing carrier WiFi. Indeed, BT Wi-fi is Britain's largest wi-fi network, with more than 4 million hotspots across the UK and Ireland at high street brands, hotels, cafes, transport hubs and in thousands of independent businesses and homes. Regarding LTE-U and LAA, Steve thinks the important thing is for all the parties involved - WiFi specialists, vendors, regulators and LTE vendors and operators - to come together to try and forge a common view and way forward for the new public spectrum technologies. Steve is of the view that all the parties, including users, will benefit if the issues are handled correctly.
